 WoD: "Tabata This!"

  • Super dooooooper spicy one to start the week!!!
  • This is a classic main site WoD from way back when (you can check the original posting of it here). Tabata WoDs are a fantastic way to build capacity & volume on one massive white of fitness! With such short time periods in which to work in you find yourself in a state of urgency which means we push!
  • Tabata workouts also have two ways of measuring the score. One way is to count the total number of reps you accrue across the moves. The other way is to count the lowest number of reps in each movement.
  • Today we will use the latter. You will be recording the lowest numbers from each of the five moves. What this does is challenge you to approach this a bit differently. There may not be as much purchase in going hell for leather in the opening rounds of each move only to see things fall away to very low numbers respectively. Instead try approaching it with the intentions os holding some high numbers across the rounds. Now these may not be the absolute highest you could get in any one 20 second period but overall you will be building some serous volume and more importantly some tolerance to that higher volume. Plus this way will avoid you having to write the dreaded 1 or 0 next to one of the moves if you find you have burnt out by the 6th round!!
  • Side note: Tabata's can leave us a bit sore in the day/s ahead so be extra diligent on your recovery. Hop on the assault bike after class for 5-10 mons. Foam roll out those legs & lats. And be sure to drink plenty of water & eat lots of good wholesome food throughout the day too (and before you ask, no, your morning coffee & donuts doesn't count as this!!)
