 Oly Strength WoD:

Power Clean

  • “19.5” has now come & gone. We have had a wild ride but it has been a hard ride to say the least!! We aren’t going all out today as a result so come on in, use the time to start the restoration process after all that hullabaloo. What better way than to break into some technical lifting.
  • Footwork is the name of the game today. to truly "find your feet" in an olympic lift is a wondrous thing. It tells us that when the going gets tough and the weight heavy, or you are dead tired in a WoD, that you will naturally stay in a safe & advantageous position.
  • How many times have you seen someone unwilling to get under a barbell with feet at squat distance (or shoulder width) apart. Generally if your feet are on the correct spots then you will make a decent lift. If you sacrifice that for a super wide "Bambi-esqe" catch then we know that you will likely miss that lift. If not that one then the next set after that!!
  • We are going to go so far today to say that if you land your feet OUTSIDE that of your natural squatting stance then it will be a no-rep!! (cue the gasp from the audience!!). Yes we do CrossFit, and yes, this isn't a purists Oly club BUT we do want you to learn the sound techniques and stay safe at the same time. If this means you don't match or beat your all-time best power clean then ask yourself why were you willing to sacrifice your joints in favour of an extra few kilos?? Was it the ego? Was it the peer pressure at the time? Today lift as heavy as you can WITH the best technique the you tube world has ever seen!!
  • Get round your mates, watch them lift, cheer them on, grab sone high fives and it'll be a good day!!
  • Hold the standards. Form is priority as always.
  • Scale as needed.
