Foreword from Karl...

Two months ago Bich took on an immense challenge and completed a 100km Ultra Trail Run!! It was a display of enormous amounts Fitness & mental strength. We were stoked for her and happy to have played but a small part in her preparation for the event. To say everyone at CrossFit CBD is proud is a huge understatement! If you aren't aware of the event itself you can check some details out here.

Since completing it Bich was fielding lots of questions on how she did it, why she did it & what was it like doing it? So we thought we spoiled ask her to write a short account of the weekend. We hope it might give you some inspiration that you really can achieve so much when you put your mind to it.

Without further a-due here is Bich's account.

"You Can Do Anything You Want. You Just Have To Want It Enough!

UTA100 Blog – 21 June 2017

You can do ANYTHING you want, you just have to want it enough. Eight weeks ago, I ran over 4400 m vertical elevation, across 100 kms at Ultra Trail Australia in the Blue Mountains, NSW. Since then, people have asked me how I did it, what I think about, if I listen to music, what goes through my mind. My honest answer? I try to focus on being in the moment and present. My mind needs to be clear to focus on the task at hand, to change what I need to adjust quickly, so I don't suffer in 5-6 hours’ time. This, for me, is the soul of endurance racing and I love it.

I am always working towards something, seeking the next challenge, to push my mind, body and spirit. It’s only when I am completely broken, emotions are raw and am too exhausted to even cry, that I see what I am truly made of. We live in a time and age where everything is easily accessible and at our finger tips, we can become complacent in life. These events allow me to see the real ‘Bich Jennings’ and reminds me that the ‘human will’ can make the impossible - possible, that mind dominates the body. This lesson can’t be taught in the confines of a comfortable life.

When people look at me, I wonder what most of them see. Perhaps it’s a series of running photos on Facebook or Instagram posts in stunning locations, with smile on my face #myhappyplace

What is it in reality? It's getting up before 5am every day, even on weekends. Changing my body fuel to burn fat, so I have energy to keep going and can recover faster for the next workout. The meticulous planning that goes into training with consistency on days that are cold, wet and when I am tired. Showing up to yoga to maintain my body and prevent injury. Double training days. Turning down the slice of cake because I know it will spike my insulin levels. The hours spent preparing and analysing my training sessions, the race course, elevation, tapering, sleep, fuelling, hydration, triple gear checks and then writing it down for my support crew so they know exactly what I need on race day. It's the post-race analysis and documenting the lessons learnt, this is where I leave no stone unturned because that is the only way to improve my game for the next ultra, through relentless self-evaluation.

I am no expert and have never stood on a podium alongside other ultra-runners but I am a part of a community that have run this course and numerous other 100km+ ultras around the world. I dared to dream big, focus, dedicate my time and effort to my goal, then achieving it.

It may be the goal which is attained, that everyone sees and nothing else, but we know, as CrossFitter's, it’s all about hitting the little milestones along the journey to your goal. If you are thinking about your next challenge, whatever it may be, and still contemplating about committing to it, I leave you with a few parting words…

Be hungry for it, don't settle and dream big. YOU can do it too, as long as you WANT it enough.
