    Originally coming to Melbourne from the UK. Athletically speaking I had a background of playing rugby union. Playing as part of a team was all that I ever knew. And ‘working out’ for that sport was just a means to an end for me. Back then “hitting the gym” a couple times a week seemed sufficient enough for what i assumed was good Fitness.. Little did I know what I was about to discover when I first found CrossFit midway through 2011.

    CrossFit truly captured my imagination and my eyes were well & truly opened to a whole new realm of possibilities of what you can achieve with your body & mind. Even now I’d still occasionally think to myself “why didn’t you do this earlier?!”

    I got absolutely hooked, & soon after starting CrossFit I knew this is what I wanted to do with my life; I wanted to coach it! I’m a Certified Personal Trainer by trade, but I’m a Passionate CrossFit coach by choice! The first opportunity I could I went and took my CrossFit level 1 Certification, and then proceeded to obtain any other courses that would help me to become a better coach. I have since gone onto to attain my CrossFit Level 2 & am currently studying for my Level 3.
    From a personal standpoint, CrossFit has helped me to do things I never thought were physically possible for me, and from a professional point of view, my getting to help people from all walks of life achieve things that they too previously never thought they could is absolutely priceless to me.

    CrossFit to me is more than just a workout, it’s something far far bigger than that, it’s the camaraderie, the community, it’s the bonds & friendships you make within the “Box” that make it all worthwhile. It’s an emotional ride, and gee, I wouldn’t have it any other way!

    CrossFit has now overtaken Rugby and become my “sport” of choice. I still get those butterflies when waiting to hit the next days ‘Workout Of the Day’ (‘WOD’). I know I’m going to be doing this for as long as I possibly can. At 36 I can honestly say that I’m more Fit & functionally able than when I was 26!!

    I am truly thankful that I have have been lucky enough to have found this program & class myself as even luckier that I get to teach it on a daily basis. I look forward to all of my classes & hope to see you soon!!

    After 15 years of playing state level team sports through my high school and university years I found myself drifting from gyms to running half marathons to boxing. However I was never able to find that ‘sport’ which produced the results while also keeping me interested. After I stumbled across CrossFit in early 2010 I became absolutely hooked – it pushed me further than I ever thought possible and also left me wanting more and wondering what else I could achieve. After falling in love with the sport, I wanted to take it further and impart my passion onto others through coaching. I went on to complete my Level 1 certified coaching and other courses. Since then I have never looked back.

    What I love most about coaching is seeing the impact CrossFit can have on people’s lives. Every day I get to see people with all different fitness levels and backgrounds amaze themselves with what they can achieve through CrossFit. They walk in the door (& up those stairs!!) and think a movement is impossible and within a few months they are achieving beyond their expectations. It is hard to put into words the feelings you have when you first see one of our athletes get their first pull up or their first handstand.

    The community spirit, the achievements and the results are what keep me excited to be involved in the CrossFit program!

    I first started CrossFit in early 2013 after making the move from Adelaide to Melbourne. I had often heard that CrossFit had a unique community and thought that it might be useful place to meet new people. What I actually found was like nothing like I had ever seen or experienced before and intrinsically I knew I was in the right place.  I love the constant variety that other gym programs lacked and found an amazing group of people who have become life-long friends. CrossFit has pushed me to become better than the previous version of myself every single day and has in turn completely changed my life. There are so many things I can do now that I wouldn’t have believed possible before CrossFit, not only physically but almost more importantly, mentally.

    Before long I knew that I wanted to know as much as I could about the program & the sport. Learning about the way people should move is the sole reason behind signing up for my Level 1 Certificate. Though, as soon as I walked away from that course I knew this was what I was meant to do with my life. I wanted to help people, I wanted them to feel the same satisfaction from working out that I did and I couldn’t wait to get started.

    Since then I haven’t stopped working towards knowing as much as I can to be a better person and in turn a better coach. The reward in aiding someone to achieve a goal they never thought possible is second to none!

    I was first introduced to CrossFit by a very close friend who managed to coax me to come and cheer her on in a local competition around 2011.

    Although I was only a spectator, I was instantly hooked by what I saw; the workouts they were given looked tough and intense but in spite of this all of these athletes were left smiling in a pool of sweat! This seemed like this could be my kind of torture!

    Most of all though I loved the camaraderie shared by the “Box” (our term for gym) as well as the friendliness shown from of all the community. They all seemed to share a huge common interest & bond and it resonated with me. I actually found out that a Box (CF CBD as it happens!) was opening in Melbourne’s CBD that very same night. It was as if it was meant to be!! And so began the hassling emails to Susan to find out how/when can I start!

    I’m proud to say that I have been a member of CrossFit CBD since day one of its opening. I’ve had a lot of challenges along the way, but nothing beats the feeling of setting a new “PR” (Personal Record) or achieving something you never imagined was possible. For me personally, Coaching has now given me the opportunity to help others achieve these things & I’m stoked to be able to do this and I really look forward to my Coaching my classes each week.

    I will to continue to educate myself with all things CrossFit & Fitness related in the coming years in the hope of passing on this knowledge to our members and seeing them achieve awesome things they never realised possible.
