Blog Post: Sunday Flicks Come Early! 2014 & 2015 Games Highlights

Sunday Thursday Flicks

2014 "Dog Sled" 2015"Burden Run" WoDs

The 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games has started already! Wow how quick a year can fly past us! The Teenagers & The Masters have been in their Competition for two days already, and the Open Individuals have already had their first day of competition being flown no less up the Californian coast to do the opening 3 events at the spiritual home of the CrossFit Games, The Castro Ranch in Aromas, California. In a throwback to 2009 they repeated the opening two events but with stark changes in standards from back then, namely the heavier loading on the barbells!

In a matter of days we will find out who comes out on top and is crowned the Champion. Before that lets gets ready for the weekend by looking at our final instalment of looking back at Games gone past. If you haven't yet seen last Sundays post check it out here.

For this final look we take in the two most recent CrossFit Games, 2014 & 2015. The stakes had been raised through the years gone past so these were to be no different. They upped the ante on the volume, loading, intensity, even the heat upped its game & made the athletes lives a misery!

For this weeks look we will see how quick the games have become. Not only do you need to be strong to be competitive in the highest level but you need to be able to haul butt whilst at the same time going heavy!

2014 brought us a fun packed event to watch in the Clean Speed Ladder. The Athletes went in heats and basically it was a race to to the finish line a mere 25m away. You just had to clean 4-5 Heavy Barbells along the way first! They went round robin style with winners progressing through to the next round and so on. Where we bring you one of the quarter finals where the loading wasn't the maximal so they naturally moving quite fast!

In 2015 they took the popular concept of the Speed Clean Ladder which proved to be a hit amongst the fans. This time they made it a Speed Snatch Ladder! They flipped the direction of which they worked meaning they had more metres to cover. The 4-5 bars stayed and the had to plow their way through thee bars at pace. The snatch being he most technical of lifts, it certainly posed a challenge to these talented peeps! (Oh & this was just an hour or so after they tackled "Murph" in the midday sun too!).

Next week? .... We will post another video on Sunday arvo. What will it be? Well you just have to stay tuned to the RoD Blog to find out! Don't forget to subscribe to this by filling in your email in the bar to the right 🙂
